WE MUST ENACT TRANSFAT POLICIES NOW!

In 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the #REPLACE package, a step-by-step guide supporting Transfat elimination efforts. It is 5 years now and no country in East Africa has enacted Trans Fat policies. This is saddening!

Enacting Trans-Fat policies must now be a top priority and an urgent national and regional imperative. The number of deaths from heart diseases are at an all-time high (over 540,000 deaths annually). There is overwhelming evidence indicating that trans fats are contributing significantly to these staggering statistics. Something must be DONE!

Countries in #EastAfrrica are called upon to utilize the #REPLACE package by WHO to enact appropriate Trans Fat policies. Doing so will not only save lives but will also result in a significant reduction of catastrophic healthcare costs which plunge people into abject poverty.

The time to ACT IS NOW! The initial deadline for eliminating Transfat set by WHO lapses this year. Countries in #EastAfrica must act FAST, not just to beat the deadline, but to SAVE LIVES. This is an urgent #IMPERATIVE!
